We offer the following reminders of recent changes at the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB).
Visual Observations of Hazardous Formwork
In addition to the contractor inspections required by BC 3305.3.3.1, as of June 1, 2015, the DOB requires visual observations of hazardous formwork by an observer with the following qualifications:
- The formwork designer;
- An employee of the formwork designer under his or her direct supervision;
- A registered design professional retained by the formwork designer; OR
- An employee of such retained registered design professional under his or her direct supervision.
The observer must validate that formwork conforms to the design intent. He or she must report any observed formwork conditions hazardous to life, safety or health that have not been immediately corrected by the responsible contractor.
New Landmark Forms in Effect
It’s that time again: new forms from the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC).
If you’re working on a landmark building, be sure to file the latest, greatest versions of these forms:
- Application Form for Work on Designated Properties. Use this form to describe the project and its effect on the landmark property. LPC staff uses this information to determine if the application meets LPC’s rules for approval by staff or will require a review by the full Commission at a Public Hearing.
- Expedited Certificate of No Effect Application Form. This form expedites approval for projects that have “no effect” on landmark buildings. It combines two previous forms into one.
