On Thursday, September 28th, more than 300 alumni, sponsors and guests of the New York Institute of Technology School of Architecture and Design gathered at the Union League Club for the 9th NYIT FRIENDS & Alumni Reception. The event was hosted by the FRIENDS of the School of Architecture and Design and chaired by Domenick Chieco, Senior Vice President, Managing Partner at Milrose, and a graduate of the class of 1989.
This year’s event recognized the career achievements of Spotlight Alumni, Peter Ruggiero, Design Principal HOK (’82) and Phillip Bottega, Director, Head of Corporate Real Estate – Americas Societe Generale (‘84).

During the reception, the Spotlight Alumni offered words of inspiration and advice to NYIT’s architecture and design students and emphasized the importance of making academic achievements during their time in college.
The Spotlight on Alumni had the honor of recognizing NYIT students that have received prestigious awards including the Donghia Scholarship, the Decorator’s Club Scholarship and the Eleanor Allwork Scholarship Award through the AIA, illustrating the academic and design excellence that NYIT students achieve. In addition, the reception provided current students with the opportunity to showcase their work and network among established members of the architecture, construction, and interior design industries.

The NYIT Alumni & Friends Reception began eight years ago as a way to bring more alumni into the activities of the Friends of NYIT and has since grown to become the alumni group’s primary fundraiser. Additionally, the FRIENDS of NYIT facilitate student scholarships, guest lectures and conferences to advance the future of NYIT students and help them achieve their greatest potential.
