On September 21, 2015, the State of New Jersey adopted the 2015 International Building Code (IBC 2015). Compliance on all new applications is required following a six-month grace period ending on March 21, 2016.

Electrical
- National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) – 2014
Plumbing
- National Standard Plumbing Code 2009 (Unchanged)
Energy
- International Energy Conservation Code – 2015 (For Residential)
- ASHRAE 90.1 – 2013 (For Commercial)
Accessibility
- Barrier Free Subcode – Chapter 11 of IBC NJ/NJAC 5.23-7 (Updated Yearly)
- ICC/ANSI A117.1-2009
Elevator
- NJAC:5.23-12 (Updated Yearly) and the ASME Standard
Any applications filed before the end of the six-month grace period can comply with either the 2009 or 2015 building codes, but not both. If an application is filed under the 2009 Code, it would need to file a variance to apply allowances under the 2015 Code.
