Long Island Municipality Updates

Site development plans may no longer need to be submitted when building or enlarging single or two-family residences in the village of Great Neck.

Currently, any alteration of a residence exceeding half the original building area, or a new development greater than the initial building area by 1,000 sq. ft., would need to be submitted as part of a site development plan. The Planning Board recently introduced a local law aimed to make the development process faster and less costly for residents. The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the new law at a further date.

Oyster Bay Town Board is considering extending its residential building permit amnesty program for an additional six months.

An article published in Newsday, reports that the Oyster Bay Town Board may extend their amnesty program which had been set to expire at the end of the year. The town Department of Planning and Development is currently taking  applications at its main office and at its satellite office at 977 Hicksville Rd.

The Department's revenue has increased to $7.1 million in 2016 from $5.8 million in 2015. Acting commissioner of planning and development, Timothy Zike, attributed the increase in revenue to a surge in commercial permit applications being filed over the past 10-11 months.
