To keep workers safe, New York City requires individuals involved in rigging work to complete training courses or to obtain professional certifications, both of which must meet New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) approval. The DOB recently approved the Certification of Crane Operators (CCO) Rigger and Signalman certifications to satisfy these requirements.
Per a DOB announcement, members of a rigging crew who possess valid CCO Rigger Level I and Signalperson certifications issued by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) meet the New York City Building Code requirements for individuals who perform rigging work.
The DOB also confirmed that attaining the CCO Rigger Level II and Signalperson certifications will satisfy the requirements of Section 3316.9.2 of the Building Code for individuals who supervise rigging work in the city.
