The new NYC Construction Code will go into effect on Nov. 7, 2022 and it includes over 600 significant changes that aim to improve building safety and enhance sustainability.

This month, in our Part 2: Residential Amenity Spaces guide, we provide an overview of the big code changes and clarifications for Group R-2 Amenity Spaces (i.e. residential lounges, gymnasiums, pools, roof terraces, dining spaces), such as:

• New occupant load calculations that better align with assembly spaces
• “Concentrated” vs "Unconcentrated" indoor space
• Number of exit door requirements
• New fire protection and egress requirements
